Tees Valley Creative Learning is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company. Our mission is to support parents to help their children achieve in their education to the best of their abilities.
The courses are designed for parents in Key Stage 2 but can be adapted for both younger and older children for example; Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, 3 and 4.
Our service is available throughout the Tees Valley area including Darlington, Guisbrough, Hartlepool, Ingleby Barwick, Middlesbrough, Redcar, Stockton, Thornaby and Yarm, subject to the availability of our tutors.
Parents’ KS2 is a unique course in that it specifically focuses on the skills and techniques parents need to develop in order the help their children with their academic work at the Key Stage 2 level through to their transition into secondary school.
The Parents’ KS2 Programme is skills-based and emphasizes the development of questioning and support techniques in order to help children focus, revise, understand and expand their knowledge required to become successful at Key Stage 2. As part of each session some English and mathematics teaching and learning may be required, since many parents have not been in education since leaving school and may need to brush up on some topics. Each session models current methods and techniques used in primary schools across England and introduces parents to the requirements of the Primary Curriculum at this level. Many adults are afraid to return to learning due to unhappy experiences at school or college. Tees Valley Creative Learning provides a safe, supportive and enjoyable learning experience for all adults.
Previous courses that were conducted across eight primary schools in Middlesbrough were successful, with many parents expressing an improvement in personal confidence and that of their children, as well as a becoming increasingly conscientious about their children’s school work. Parents’ comments are quoted on the back page.
